Job Description

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious project engineer with a mechanical engineering background who is looking to build a career in project management. As a Trainee Mechanical Project Manager, you’ll gain hands-on experience supporting the delivery of mechanical projects within the water sector.

The role provides a clear pathway for career progression, offering structured training and mentoring from experienced Project Managers on smaller project works for a large water site. You’ll split your time between the office, supporting with project planning and administration, and on-site, where you’ll gain exposure to the practical aspects of mechanical installations, tanks, and pumping equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Project Manager in planning, coordinating, and delivering projects.

  • Support in preparing project documentation, including Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).

  • Help organise and order materials for projects.

  • Shadow and support in overseeing contractors and operatives on-site.

  • Learn to liaise with clients and provide updates on project progress.

  • Assist with scheduling, reporting, and maintaining accurate project records.

  • Support health & safety compliance across all project activities.

  • Participate in site inductions, toolbox talks, and audits.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Mechanical engineering qualification 

  • Strong interest in developing a career in project management.

  • Ability to read and interpret basic technical drawings.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

  • Full UK driving licence.

  • Strong communication skills and a proactive attitude.

Desirable Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years experience in a mechanical project role 

  • Previous  experience would be within water industry would be an advantage

  • Full UK driving licence
