Quantity Surveyor
Salary: Up to £50k DOE with Car Allowance
Location: Home based with regular site visits across South Coast, Worthing/Kent /London
Permanent full time role
Working with a small but mighty team, our client is looking for someone who may be an assistant surveyor looking for a step up as there will be training opportunities.
The role however will need hands on and self-driven, due to predominantly working from home.
Role Purpose
This role plays a critical role in supporting the successful delivery of smart metering operations by reviewing, validating, and managing aborted installation activities that may require excavation, enabling works, boundary box replacements, or Street works intervention.
Acting as a key interface between Commercial, Operations, Planning, Streetworks, and Programme teams, this role ensures aborted jobs are accurately evidenced, commercially assessed, and managed in line with NEC4 TSC contractual requirements, Scope obligations, and operational processes.
You will help drive commercial assurance and operational excellence by reducing unnecessary costs, challenging unsupported excavation claims, improving data quality, and maintaining audit-ready governance across the programme.
This position supports operational delivery, reporting, defect management, deployment activity, and Streetworks obligations within a fast-paced NEC4 TSC smart metering contract environment.
Key Responsibilities
Aborted Job & Excavation Validation
- Review and validate aborted or failed smart meter installation jobs.
- Assess supporting evidence including site photographs, surveys, operative notes, and asset information.
- Determine whether excavation works, boundary box replacements, or enabling activities are justified and required.
- Ensure abort reasons are accurately classified, evidenced, and recorded to support operational and commercial decisions.
Commercial & Contract Assurance
- Ensure activities are delivered in accordance with NEC4 TSC contract requirements and Scope obligations.
- Partner with Commercial teams to support:
- Payment validation
- Compensation event assessment
- Pay Less notices
- Commercial dispute resolution and defence
- Identify trends and risks that may indicate operational inefficiencies, contractual exposure, or data quality concerns.
Data Analysis & Performance Reporting
- Produce and maintain reporting and dashboards relating to:
- Aborted installations
- Excavation and dig volumes
- Defect trends
- Enabling works requirements
- Commercial and financial exposure
- Analyse recurring failures, performance gaps, and high-risk locations to drive operational improvements and informed decision-making.
Workflow & Defect Management
- Manage incidents, defects, and follow-on actions using operational systems including MWorks, Power BI, Freshdesk, or equivalent platforms.
- Monitor remediation activities, excavation requirements, permits, and completion progress to ensure timely resolution.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Commercial, Operations, Streetworks, Finance, and Programme teams to support programme performance.
- Act as the connection between operational field insight and commercial decision-making.
- Build strong relationships across internal and external stakeholders to support delivery outcomes.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Relevant degree qualification or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience within utilities, infrastructure, smart metering, or operational performance environments.
- Strong experience managing operational and commercial datasets.
- Advanced capability in Power BI, Excel, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong analytical skills with the confidence to challenge unsupported operational claims.
Desirable
- Experience working within NEC contracts or regulated contract environments.
- Experience producing operational insight, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
