Project Engineer

Location: Site and office based across the West Midlands, with regular travel between locations Salary: Circa £45,000, dependent on experience Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Project Engineer to join our team, working on structural steel replacement projects across water treatment works in the West Midlands. We're after someone who is ready to hit the ground running — a confident, experienced engineer who can take ownership of projects from an early stage with minimal ramp-up time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee structural steel replacement projects from planning through to completion
  • Act as the main point of contact for site-based engineering queries, liaising with contractors, clients and internal teams
  • Review and interpret structural drawings, specifications and technical documentation
  • Ensure works are delivered safely, on programme and to the required quality standards
  • Carry out site inspections and progress checks, identifying and resolving issues as they arise
  • Coordinate with the office on project documentation, reporting and procurement
  • Support the planning and sequencing of steel replacement works, minimising disruption and downtime to live water treatment processes
  • Ensure compliance with relevant health & safety legislation and site-specific requirements, including those specific to operational water/wastewater sites
  • Liaise with subcontractors and suppliers to keep projects on track

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience as a Project Engineer, ideally within structural steel, water/wastewater treatment, construction or industrial engineering environments
  • Solid understanding of structural steel replacement/refurbishment works
  • Experience working on live or operational water treatment sites is highly desirable
  • Confident working independently across multiple sites with minimal supervision
  • Strong organisational skills, able to manage competing priorities across different locations
  • Good working knowledge of health & safety requirements on site
  • Strong communication skills, comfortable liaising with clients, contractors and internal teams
  • A full UK driving licence, with willingness to travel regularly across the West Midlands
  • Relevant engineering qualification (HNC/HND or degree in a relevant discipline) desirable but not essential if experience is strong

What We Offer

  • Circa £45,000 salary, dependent on experience
  • A varied role across multiple active sites
  • The opportunity to take real ownership of projects from an early stage
  • Supportive team environment with a genuine focus on getting things done right
