We're recruiting for an experienced Business Development Manager to drive growth for a thriving electrical contractor. You'll own the full business development cycle from identifying and pursuing new opportunities right through to landing profitable projects and seeing them delivered to the client.

This is field-based autonomy with real responsibility. You'll build your own territory, develop relationships across commercial, retail, office and warehouse sectors, and work closely with an experienced team. If you've got the contacts, the confidence to win new business, and a track record in electrical contracting or M&E, you'll have the platform here to grow alongside an ambitious business that's expanding fast.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and develop new business opportunities across the commercial electrical contracting market
  • Proactively approach prospective clients, main contractors, consultants, facilities management providers and property organisations
  • Research target markets, upcoming projects, frameworks and tender opportunities
  • Generate qualified leads through cold calling, networking, referrals, site visits and face-to-face meetings
  • Arrange and attend client meetings to understand operational, technical and commercial requirements
  • Promote the company's electrical installation, maintenance and energy-efficiency services
  • Develop new relationships while strengthening opportunities within existing client accounts
  • Build and manage a structured sales pipeline from initial contact through to secured project
  • Qualify opportunities to ensure they are commercially viable and aligned with the company's capabilities
  • Work closely with directors, estimators, project managers and operational teams when developing proposals and quotations
  • Support tender submissions and provide relevant client and project information to the estimating team
  • Prepare professional presentations, proposals and commercial documentation
  • Negotiate commercial terms and progress opportunities through to agreement
  • Maintain accurate CRM records, activity reports, opportunity values and projected conversion dates
  • Provide regular updates on pipeline activity, market developments and competitor activity
  • Represent the company professionally at networking events, exhibitions, industry meetings and client sites
  • Support the smooth handover of secured projects to the estimating and delivery teams
  • Build long-term client relationships that generate repeat business and referrals

About You

Essential:

  • Proven experience in business development, sales or account management within electrical contracting, M&E, building services or a closely related technical sector
  • Strong understanding of commercial electrical installation and maintenance services
  • Demonstrable experience generating and converting new B2B opportunities
  • Confident approaching new clients and developing relationships from an initial introduction
  • Experience managing a sales pipeline and progressing opportunities through a structured sales cycle
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to assess the potential value and viability of opportunities
  • Excellent communication, presentation and negotiation skills
  • Ability to communicate confidently with clients, contractors, consultants and technical teams
  • Self-motivated and comfortable working independently in a field-based role
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple opportunities and priorities
  • Full UK driving licence

 

Desirable:

  • An established network across commercial property, construction, retail, facilities management or principal contracting
  • Experience selling electrical projects into retail, commercial, office or warehouse environments
  • Knowledge of electrical estimating, tendering or project delivery
  • Experience working with facilities management providers, main contractors, property managers or multi-site organisations
  • Familiarity with planned maintenance, compliance work, project upgrades and energy-efficiency solutions
  • Experience using CRM systems to manage pipelines, forecasts and sales activity
