We are looking for a dynamic and commercially focused Business Development Manager to drive growth within our Utility Services function. Operating in the Industrial & Commercial (I&C) market across the UK, this role is central to expanding market presence, identifying new business opportunities, and building lasting relationships with key stakeholders.
You’ll work as part of a collaborative Business Development team while also engaging with supporting functions such as marketing, engineering, and operations. Your focus will be on utility infrastructure projects including electric, gas, water, and telecommunications connections.
Strategic Growth: Support and execute business development strategies across multiple sectors. Identify new clients and growth opportunities within the UK utility infrastructure landscape.
Market Insight: Conduct market research and competitor analysis to inform targeting and positioning strategies. Understand emerging trends, industry demands, and customer expectations.
Client Relationship Management: Build and maintain relationships with key decision-makers – including developers, contractors, landowners, utility partners, and local authorities – to drive sales and develop new partnerships.
Sales and Proposals: Lead proposal development and tender submissions, ensuring alignment with technical capabilities and client objectives.
Contract Negotiation: Manage end-to-end sales cycles, including commercial negotiations, contracts, and onboarding of new clients.
Networking and Industry Engagement: Represent the business at conferences, exhibitions, and networking events to enhance visibility and credibility in the market.
Pipeline Management and Reporting: Maintain accurate CRM records and produce detailed reports on pipeline status, market movements, and performance metrics.
Internal Collaboration: Coordinate with teams across engineering, finance, operations, and marketing to deliver a seamless customer experience.
Additional Responsibilities: Flexibility to undertake other duties that align with the role as needed.
We’re seeking someone who is proactive, strategic, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving industry. To succeed in this role, you’ll need:
Proven experience in business development or sales within the utility infrastructure sector.
Strong network and profile in electricity, gas, water, or telecoms markets.
Experience managing multiple service lines or complex offerings.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
A creative approach to writing, presenting, and delivering compelling proposals.
Strong organisational skills, with the ability to juggle competing priorities and tight deadlines.
A sound understanding of digital marketing and SEO principles.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office – particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Commercial awareness and strategic thinking.
