Banksman

About the role

We are looking for an experienced CPCS-qualified Banksman / Labourer to support the installation of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure at a live service station. The site will stay open to the public during the works, so safe traffic and pedestrian management is a key part of the job.

Key responsibilities

Banksman duties

• Guide and direct vehicles, plant and delivery drivers safely on and around the site
• Act as signaller for plant such as excavators, dumpers and delivery vehicles, particularly when reversing
• Manage pedestrian and vehicle segregation, keeping members of the public clear of work areas
• Control access to excavations, work zones and exclusion areas
• Monitor barriers, signage and cones, and maintain them as needed

General labouring duties

• Assist with groundworks, including excavation, trenching, backfilling and reinstatement
• Help lay ducting, cable routes and associated materials
• Assist with installing charger bases, kerbing, bollards and protective barriers
• Load, unload and move materials around site
• Keep the work area clean, tidy and free from hazards
• Support electricians, groundworkers and other trades as directed

Essential requirements

• Valid CPCS Banksman
• Previous experience as a banksman on a construction site
• Good understanding of site safety, particularly working around live traffic
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather and carry out physical work
• Good communication skills and a clear, confident manner when directing vehicles
• Reliable, punctual and able to follow instructions

Desirable

• Experience on groundworks, utilities or civils projects
• Previous work on a live operational site such as a forecourt, car park or retail site
• Current first aid training
• Full driving licence
