Mechanical Design Engineer

My client is a successful business providing mechanical, electrical and data commercial services with dominance in the retail sector throughout UK.
Due to continued expansion they are looking to recruit an additional experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to their team based just outside of Sheffield.

Duties and responsibilities of the position will include but not limited to the following;

  • Assist the Operations teams as necessary
  • Work closely with the Operations teams and estimating department to provide design solutions. Actively review and offer Value Engineering design opportunities with considerations to cost, effectiveness and safety of new designs.
  • Prepare detailed designs and specifications for building services engineering projects.
  • Provide technical advice to group company personnel on matters concerning building services engineering.
  • Evaluate tenders for building services engineering services and advise on their technical and financial viability.
  • Liaise and correspond with Statutory Authorities and incoming services supply companies, in relation to the project design.
  • Attend, participate and present at multi-disciplinary project design team meetings.
  • Liaise with site operatives, nominated services engineers, external consultants and architects etc.
  • Carry out surveys, produce and present reports to a high quality.
  • (Mechanical) Utilise building services design software for detailed analysis of all energy calculations and thermal modelling associated with buildings such as heat loss, heat gain, energy consumption, Part L compliance, SBEM/SAP and plant modelling. Design pipe and duct work services using advanced software (e.g. Cymap).
  • (Electrical) Utilise building services design software for detailed analysis of all energy calculations and thermal modelling associated with buildings such as heat loss, heat gain, energy consumption, Part L compliance, SBEM/SAP and plant modelling. Electrical main and sub-main distribution, electrical cabling, cpc sizing and protective device sizing (along with discrimination studies) using advanced software (e.g. Cymap, Amtech). Produce advanced lighting designs utilising lighting software (e.g. Cymap, Dialux, Relux).
  • Areas of expertise not limited to but may include; HVAC, Public Health, Energy Modelling, Controls and BEMS, Fire Fighting and Alarms, Life Safety, Standby Power, HV/LV Sub-Station Design, Lighting Design and Controls, Lightning Protection, IT Network and Comms, Energy/Low Zero Carbon/BREEAM and Sustainability.
  • Critically review, comment and status external/third party designs on behalf of the Group.
  • Work closely with CAD/BIM team to ensure completion of designs and CAD/BIM drawings are produced to the highest quality and according to company standards.
  • Research new developments and innovations and take an active approach to their own CPD.
  • Read, understand and implement the Company Health and Safety Policy and QA at all times.

Education, Qualifications & Experience;

  • Preferably 2:1 or above degree accredited by IET, CIBSE or IMechE
  • Minimum HNC/HND or equivalent in mechanical or electrical building services
  • Preferably a Member of IET, CIBSE, IMechE or Equivalent
  • 5 years’ experience in a building services design role (Mechanical and/or Electrical)
  • Excellent working knowledge of CIBSE guidance, British Standards and Codes of Practice relevant to building services engineering.
