Assistant Gardener

Our client offer a range of services to the Wakefield area, one of these services is Assistant Gardener within the borough.

We are looking to recruit gardeners to work in the Wakefield area on a temporary ongoing contract. You must have a valid driving licence

Working under the direction of Team Leaders, utilise experience, skills and knowledge to deliver street cleansing needs to a specified geographical area within the Wakefield District.

Responsibilities

The tasks associated with the role will include the following:

• • Working under the direction of senior staff, utilise experience, skills and knowledge to deliver specialist horticultural needs of a specified geographical area within the Wakefield District.
  • To work to schedules and routes to ensure work is being undertaken in the most efficient and effective manner, taking into account seasonal factors, the needs of the residents of the district and the interface between the Grounds Maintenance Teams and other Environmental Service Teams.
  • To carry out work in such a manner that performance indicator targets are achieved.
  • To operate a range of powered grounds maintenance machinery and plant including tractors, ride-on mowers, side-arm hedge cutters.
  • To operate a range of powered machinery and plant including back pack blowers, pedestrian operated mowers, strimmer’s, hand-held hedge cutters and similar items.
  • To ensure equipment and machinery used is safe and maintained. 
  • To undertake a range of grounds work including setting out beds/shrub planting and maintenance, and over marking pitches.
  • To apply hand held pest control treatment and undertake appropriate training to ensure this activity is undertaken correctly and safely.
  • To undertake the duties of Environmental Operatives as deemed appropriate and particularly during the low season for grounds maintenance work to assist workload requirements.
  • To assist other teams in when required to carry out a range of duties when operational requirements determine. 
  • To respond to and assist with emergency plan incidents
  • To undertake other duties commensurate with grade and scope of this job description.

Hourly rate is £10.19, hours are Mon-Fri (37hrs a week)
